All IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centers operate by appointment. Because of that you need to call 844-545-5640 to make an appointment before visiting a TAC for in-person help with your taxes.
Once your appointment is scheduled, you will receive an email confirming the date and time of your appointment. Remember that many questions can be resolved online or by phone without visiting a Taxpayer Assistance Center. Call to make an appointment only if your tax issue cannot be handled online or by phone.
What to bring to an IRS appointment
- Prepare for your appointment with the IRS and bring the following documents with you:
- A current government-issued photo ID.
- A taxpayer identification number, such as a Social Security number.
- Any other documentation required.
If you are requesting or renewing your Personal Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), remember to have your ITIN documents at hand.
