How to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit using TurboTax

If you didn’t get your stimulus payment or got less than the full amount, you may be eligible to claim a Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 or 2021 tax return.

Follow these steps to get all your stimulus payments using TurboTax:

Step 1

Get a copy of your Notice 1444 and 1444-B. These notices provide information about the amount of your payment and how to report any payment you have not received.

If you don’t have these notices from the IRS, you can sign in to your Online Account to get information about payments.

Step 2

Once you have it ready, enter all your tax information and go to the tab “Federal Review”.

TurboTax will check if you meet the eligibility requirements for the stimulus payment.

In case you qualify, you will see the Did you get a third stimulus? screen in TurboTax.

Select yes if you did receive any payment or no if you did not.

If you did not receive a stimulus or did not receive the full amount of payment, you will see a message on the screen notifying you that you qualify for the Recovery Rebate Credit.

Step 3

Finally, when you print a copy of your federal tax return, you should see your Recovery Refund Credit on line 30, which is on the second page of Form 1040.
